Problem
When standard sodium bicarbonate mixes with stomach acid, a violent chemical reaction occurs. This rapid neutralization creates carbon dioxide gas, leading to severe bloating, belching, cramps, and diarrhea.
For decades, athletes have had to choose between the performance benefits of bicarb and the high risk of race-ruining gastrointestinal distress. The industry's answer was often to use cheap thickeners like Xanthan gum, which fail to protect against acid and cause their own gut fermentation issues.
How it works
The sodium bicarbonate is suspended within a matrix of premium, plant-derived biopolymers — Alginate (from brown seaweed) and Pectin (from citrus fruits).
Upon reaching the highly acidic environment of the stomach, the biopolymers instantly react with the acid. Instead of gas, they form a dense, protective Hydrogel shield around the bicarb.
The Hydrogel safely passes into the intestine. Here, the higher pH environment dissolves the gel matrix smoothly, releasing the sodium bicarbonate exactly where it can be absorbed.
